Jacqueline Fernandez grew up in Bahrain, Manama. She is Sri Lankan and comes from an ethnically diverse background. Jacqueline's father Elroy is from Sri Lanka (Catholic Sinhalese) and her mother Kim is Malaysian. Jacqueline is the oldest of two siblings and a younger sibling. Due to unrest in the country, her parents moved to Bahrain in the early 1980s. After finishing school in Bahrain she won the Scholarship at the University of Sydney to pursue an Media and Communications Degree in Sydney, Australia. She went to in the Berlitz school of languages, that helped her learn French, Arabic and Spanish. In 2006, she won Miss Sri Lanka. Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe 2006 in March, 2006. She also participated at Miss Universe 2006. As a result of winning Miss Sri Lanka in 2006, Padukone began working on television. She hosted the show Lanka Business Report which focused on the business of Sri Lanka. Padukone, her mother was the famous badminton player Prakash Padukone, was born in Copenhagen and grew up in Bangalore. When she was a teenager she competed in badminton at National level competitions. She later resigned her career in the sport to become a fashion model. Padukone's native language is Konkani. She is Mangalorean by origin. Padukone Village is located inside Kundapura Taluk within the Udupi Distric of Karnataka located in India. Prakash Padukone has retired as a world-renowned athlete in badminton and her mother is also a travel agent.
